help/quiz cam to dvd

    hi all
    ive got loads of 8mm camcorder tapes of the kids/weddings etc...
    wot kind of PCI card would anyone recommend (low cost)to connect the cam to PC so i can capture the vid and author it to cd or dvd? and any free or shareware software to edit it. i have nero already if that would be able to do it?

    Hm - are these standard 8 or digital8 (Sony special I believe). It makes quite a difference.

    If the former you need a full video capture card, where spending serious money makes a huge difference.

    You will also need a high-speed machine to do the final rendering.

    So tell us some details!

    the tapes are the standard 8mm. its an old cam

    my machine not very high speed its a 2.5GHz celeron and only got 512MB ram.

    See if any of your friends or family have a good MiniDV camera - pref a Sony one. These usualy include something called 'Pass through mode'. This enables you to do the digitizing to Firewire easily - and makes using something like MovieMaker easy.

    Otherwise it may cost somewhat to do the capture.
