    I have tried the following:

To start the Wireless Zero Configuration service, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s, and then click OK.
    2. Double-click Wireless Zero Configuration.
    3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.
    4. In the Service status area, click Start, and then click OK.

When I get to number 4. and go to click Start it is not highlighted so I can't click on it!?

This looks confused - or maybe I am....

You have a router with WiFi. Or is it a router without WiFi and you have an AP attached to the main PC?

EDIT: I've looked up the 2100 and it includes WiFi.

How does the main PC get its Internet?

You have a laptop with what? You say it has a LAN card, so it isn't a Wifi card - so setting up wireless on it is pointless.

Why not plug the laptop directly into the router - it should have at least 1 RJ45, and probably 4.

It isn't highlighted because it is already started I suspect.

Ok I will try to clear it up a little bit better...it gets more confusing as it goes on. Here goes..

My main pc is now connected to the internet wireless via the adapter which is picked up by the router.

Ive just checked the card for the laptop and it is a 4-in-1 Wifi 802.11b AP/Router Wireless PCMCIA Card. (my mistake before sorry!)

Ive then tried to set a network up so I can connect my laptop but run into problems setting up the network.

OK - so the main PC uses WiFi to connect to the router.

Can you get the laptop Wifi card working?
I get the impression that all the preceeding talk was about the main PC - which we know is working.

So what happens when you get the laptop card working - it *should* see the Voyager 2100 and connect to it.

Move the laptop next to the router.

Check that the router is actualy on! :biggrin

Check that you haven't hidden the SSID on the router

You *may* need to set the transmission mode on the router to 11b

To get things going it is usualy a good idea to remove all encryption on the router, then reapply it when things have been got working.

    I'll ask again.

Have you tried the PEAK utility?

I *think* that Peak was the WiFi unit on the main PC. It is an entirly different card on the laptop.

If this is the unit that I think it is it is a fairly complex beast.

Make sure that it is in client mode.

I *think* you are correct :blink

Okay, have you tried using the utility that would have been installed with the wireless adapter (4-in-1 Wifi 802.11b AP/Router Wireless PCMCIA Card)?

Ok heres the thing! Firstly thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Having contacted tech support with the WI FI card company I had to configure the card and finally...it connected to the net!! :D
However at Xmas I purchased a laptop, WI FI card and router for my daughter the same as myself. Obviously I couldnt set it up until I cracked mine.
I configured the WI FI card the same as mine and it also picks up the router and says it is connected...but wont load a web page. Any ideas why?

Mark, you need to give us more details than you have been so far and it would be nice if you gave us some more feedback and answered our questions. As opposed to creating new questions :blink At the moment it is not clear to me how you sorted your issue out. Was it a SSID or encryption problem? Did you use the cards utility or windows utility? Did you make sure it was in client mode? etc.

    Now another important question...

Is your daughters laptop at the same premises?

I used the card utility on my laptop to get it to work. Even though it had been set up I was told to go back into it and switch to AP mode! I dont know what client mode is

I bought the same router for my daughter which is set up at different premises. When I went round and tried to get her laptop to connect to the internet it would not load a page. I then brought it round to my premises, tried and the same thing happened even though everything seems to be working ok!?

Er - it should not be in AP mode. Your router is the AP. Clent mode is where it listens for another AP - the router in this case.

Sorry my mistake..the setting I changed to was Station mode, which was the only other option other than AP mode. As I said this worked straight away on my laptop and appeared to work on my daughters when it picked up the router but then wouldnt load a page!?

Does it get an IP in the same network as your other laptop?

If so can you ping the other machines, or the router?

I am a complete novice when it comes to networking so am unfamilar with IP adresses and pinging, but will try to get what imformation I can:

Having searched for my IP address on all computers I found the following:

    My Desktop IP address: 192.168.1.2
    My Laptop IP address: 192.168.1.5
My Daughters Laptop ID address: 192.168.1.6

    Hope this helps! :blink

This means that the network part is probably working.

In a DOS bos type ping <address> where address is one of the other machines. It should show that the network is OK.

If this is the case then I suspect that IE is set with a proxy or some other similar prob. After all - it will be setup for your daughter's ISP. Get the settings the same as your laptop and it will probably work. Or use Firefox!
