Yeah I kinda thought that the whole "self teach" thing sounded a bit sucky to me, your comment confirms this!

Righhhht! gonna go do some homework now, been given the task of finding the best way to make a PC for under £500, buying all the parts. this should be fun. First stop overclockers.co.uk and ebuyer me thinks!

Easy - you can get a PC for under that ready built! And as it is ready built it comes with a guarantee!

A+ can be home studied. There are 2 exams, the hardware 'core' exam and the OS exam.

There is a dedicated A+ section here on CF with resourse details etc.

I think the whole point of the excersise he gave us was to see if we knew which components are required and compitable with each other, ie a Motherboard with a 939 socket and 939 processor etc, and go from there, and make a system for under £500.00.

For amusement here's my list, feel free to rip it to bits since I'm a noob.lol (I think the case is uber kewl too)

    hooo!

just looked and saw the last post..

    some thoughts..

you'll rapidly need more than an 80gb drive.
I'd dump the second DVD (never could figure out that one..) and increase the size of the hdd

And XP home ? not worth the money IMO. Get the real deal or why not buy no OS at all to start with and try linux ? something like Xandros or Ubuntu is easy enough to install.. nothing to lose really....

And a 350 Watt PSU is a tad on the feeble side IMHO :dry

Guys, can I be the dull old father-figure (shut it at the back, Broomhall) and suggest that this thread would now be best suited to the Hardware forum ? We've done the intro bit, and are now getting into specifics of building a PC, so it makes sense.

Gary, if you want to copy and paste your last post above into a new thread, go for it - other than than let me know, and I can split this one :)
