    Hiya all!

I'm Gary. I'm 24 from London and have just started a A+ course which is being paid for by my local council (which is nice).

I got a retail work background of over 5 years but wanted to change careers. I'm unemployed at the moment but looking for work while doing this course for over 16 weeks, 2 nights a week.

That's about it for now, I'm sure you'll see me posting more on here soon too!

Yeah I kinda thought that courses run by people like skills train and computeach where a bit too self reliant, as well as a bit of a scam "ie no such thing as a guaranteed job". Nothing beats having someone actually explain stuff to you as well with another 10 people around you, in a class room! lol

I'm going in tonight to learn binary . yay . ha ha :biggrin

Now I gotta find a job .lol

hmmm I'm sure I'll get that by tomorrow! ha ha. Was surprised I had to learn binary since I was told hexidecimal was the new type of system being used (with networking etc) anyway. Dum de dum.

Hi Gary - a warm welcome to CF. Hope we can help out.

I took the liberty of tweaking your post to change the url you posted to a clickable link.

Yes, the CompTIA A+ is a globally recognised vendor neutral certification which does not expire. It is an entry level cert, which means it is easier to attain than some of the Vendor specific ones out there and it is considered by many to be the best starting place for many jobs in IT.

Oh and welcome to CF 8)

Thankyou very much for the warm welcome guys n girls :D You all seem like very cool people.

This course I'm doing is run by South London ITEC

It's funded by an EU handout which is nice but I'm looking at the description of the course, and it just says it's a A+ Certification (Computer maintanence and repair) by City and guilds and not a compTIA, just in partnerships with them. Perhaps I'm wrong though . ha ha It can happen now and then I've been told!

Here's the link again of the course description:

    Click me!!!

    Any thoughts?

The first paragraph in your link says this..

My guess from that is that the cert is in fact the CompTIA's A+ :biggrin

    Welcome to CF Gary.

Hope you find all the info you need in this wealth of knowledge. I agree with you RE the computeach thing. I recorded Home 7 Away for my wife yesterday (yeah she is one of the sad folks who still wtaches that tripe) And the computeach advert made me die laughing. some cheesy guy talking to some chap saying, "30k a year and company car in it, sound good?". With those guarantees we are all mad for not joining up :P Come on boys, witht hat guarantee we should commit a mass exodus, everyone from CF to computeach, its GUARANTEED i tell you GUARANTEED lmfao sorry, carried away, think i got the point across.

Anyways gary, like was said earlier, welcome to the asylum!
