Hi, I am new to these forums obviously. I am recent graduate in Computer Studies and looking for my first job. I am taking a N+ course that is supposed to followed by the MCSA which is obviously no used unless I have a job. I think I have made a big mistake. But as I am three months into the course I suppose I have no choice but to continue.

Welcome ussoneill, Dont get to down about the MCSA mate, you may find it ends up getting you a job, or sealing you a few more interviews, good luck with the N+, did you do any networking modules with your degree? should make the process a little easier :)

hope we can help, someone should come along with the biscuits soon! :)

I am happy about doing the MCSA (even thought the brochure I have about the course is Win 2000) when I get to it. I did do three networking modules with my degree and HND. The problem is I am doing a joint course with Schiedegger, which I admit I have had no problems with until I looked into the N+ exam on the CompTIA website and found out they are updating the exam for next year.

When I am ready for the exam sometime early in the new year some of the material I am studying does not include new technologies and therefore is out of date. I have emailed scheidegger about this but I am still waiting for a reply.

No I am involved with a Star Trek based RPG. I use that name on the forums as I am also a fan of Stargate SG-1 and there was an alien ship called the oneill

Welcome, ussoneill. Glad you found the forum. I think you'll find a lot of support here in your quest for employment and certification. Ironically, experience is really key to getting a job but of course, it's hard to get experience without working.

Take heart, tho. It is possible. Five years ago, I lost my previous job and couldn't find another one that paid anything in that career track. I started on a quest to re-educate myself in IT while taking slave jobs to support my family and put myself through school.

Long story short is that I have been earning 100% of my income in IT for over a year now. Last June, I got my first full-time, permanent job in IT as a technical writer...and icing on the cake, my first book will be published in February 2005.

There is life after school...you just need to work hard and be patient. There's no guarentee of course, but you have to hang in there. You will probably work a non-IT job (I assume you already are) while taking contract work on the side. Great way to get experience and pump up your resume.

Feel free to make use of the facilities here. Welcome.
