    Hello,

I thought I would introduce myself :), I'm thinking about self teaching and getting myself a MCSE qualification.

Know doubt I'll be posting many questions and hopefully a few answers during my stay on these forums,

    Thanks

    Hi Welcome :)

HOw experience do you have in the working world of IT? if none stay away from the MCSE.

Hi & welcome to CF :)

    I agree :)

    Remember:

An MCSE candidate should have at least one year of experience implementing and administering a network operating system in environments with the following characteristics:

    1. 200 to 26,000 supported users

    2. Five to 150 physical locations

    3. Typical network services and applications including file and print, database, messaging, proxy server or firewall, dial-in server, desktop management, and Web hosting

    4. Connectivity needs including connecting individual offices and users at remote locations to the corporate network and connecting corporate networks to the Internet

In addition, an MCSE candidate should have at least one year of experience in the following areas:

    1. Implementing and administering a desktop operating system

    2. Designing a network infrastructure

    See here.

I have a BSc Honours Computer Science degree, I graduated in 2001, since then I have worked as a support engineer, mainly desktop but have done some limited server support experience.

I'm looking to get the necessary qualifications so I can move into a technical role.

    Thanks,
    Stewart

How about looking at the MCSA first? as Ken has you need a good amount of experience before tackling the big one.

Thanks for your advice, can I ask does a MCSA qualification count towards a MCSE?

This seems like a good community, I hope to get my first guide through the door before the weekend is fininshed. I have decided to start with the 70-270 course, from what I can deduce it looks like the best place to start my MSCA/MSCE journey.

    Thanks
    Stewart.
