This is my first post, so hello to all...

I'm looking to take the MCAS certification in the near future & also invest in a new laptop (current machine groans when i try to open notepad & the power pack smells of burnt tyres!).

I see that there is a module covering Vista in the new Microsoft exams and before rushing into the laptop purchase I wondered if it made any difference whether I picked up a machine with Vista Home / Business / Ultimate on it?

    Hope someone can advise....

    Cheers

    Hi Welcome to CF

I was discussing vista certs yesterday have a look http://www.certforums.co.uk/forums/thread23159.html as for the the laptop and version of vista I am not sure, but I would say any version of vista that allows you to do full backups, encryption and networking so probably Business/Ultimate maybe home premium but definetly not home basic.

Sounds like your powerpacks on its way out.

I agree with GBL regarding the Vista choices and oreder of preference - but I'm no MS expert so it's just an opinion 8)

Thanks to you both for the tip.
Though as much, but was hoping I might get away without shelling out another chunk for the OS upgrade...
    Cheers again

If you're going to take the MCAS: Vista, then I would recommend nothing lower than Home Premium. If at some point in the future if you want to do the technical exams (MCTS/MCITP), then I would recommend that you go for the Ultimate edition - as that encompasses the home side and the business side of the OS.

    Good luck :)

    Welcome!

If you decide to get Vista, I'd recommend Ultimate. If you've got access to Vista Business, it's probably not a "must do" sort of thing.
