Just following tradition and saying hello to everyone. You all seem really helpful, so hopefully you can help me.

I recently lost my job, and would like to get into the IT industry in some capacity.

I particularly like the look of the Cisco CCNP qualification.

I have been looking at all the training companies (computeach, skillstrain, jbc training etc...).

Are these any better than doing everything myself? Has anyone used these companies before and would recommend them?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

the post mainly concentrates on microsoft certs but i'm sure someone will be coming here soon and letting u know about ccnp, i think going for ccna first would be a good idea though

I would agree that looking at CCNA first would be best. It all rather depends on your current state of IT knowledge, as CCNP is very specialist.

It might even be worth going for a more foundation type cert such as A+ to begin with.

hey and welceom to CF, CCNP is a difficult one buddy but I am gald to hear that you are interested in it, I am working on ccna right now my self, but I started with Network+ first to have a main idea. But good luck with the studies.

Stephen please use the search option on CF before siging up with any learning provider. Don't part with any money until you are aware of all the facts!

You will find there are a lot of people out there who have signed up, parted with the money and then read the threads on CF!
Also remember thoses salesmen are not giving you a deal of a life time they are doing it for the commission

Just to clear something up - I will be doing the A+ and N+ as a precursor to the CCNA and CCNP.
