I dont mean to pounce on this site with a question about another site, so if it is inapropriate Si , please feel free to delete.

    Anyway,

alot of you may remember me from Tech-unity.com I am the owner of the site which I allowed to dindle to dust.

I have been extremely busy over the last few years and have faded away from forums as a whole until now.

I am getting more and more free time, mostly from the lack of business out there with the economy.
My company(s) have gone through many changes and face lifts as well, long story posted at Tech-unity if you want to read about it.

Anyway, the reason for my post here.
I am contemplating revamping and reopening Tech-unity but, making changes.
Although, with sites like Certforums, MCSEWorld, as well as ServerFault.com and the company blogs like Microsoft the need for Tech-unity to be Cert forum is seriously deminished, again my fault.

    My purposal,
    2 thoughts

Buy and install the newer version of the forum software, vBulleitn 4.0 or whatever they are up to now.

    1) Reopen with same topics and conversations, but give the site a well deserved facelift, get some new freebee's from Cert sites, like exam prep questions. Get some people to write some new articles.
Hopefully even some Dev's over at http://stackoverflow.com/

    2) or turning it into a place where anybody, but with a name like Tech-unity, you can expect it to be mostly techs, but, again anyone can come and chat about anything, keeping with social graces that is ;)
I will obviously archive into a single sub-forum all of the tech boards so people can find what they are looking for when needed.

Your thoughts and opinions are greatly appricated :beers2

    Question Notes,

the name escapes me, might you be someone else who changed their name, or have we just bumped heads in the past but never chatted?

    No worries, just curious. ;)

Hi Tom, welcome back to the land of IT. :biggrin

I'd give you an answer but I'd probably get canned.

I'm sure the other side of the world could do with a good IT site.8)

LOL, probably, at least possibly. ;)

Yeah, the site has been stagnet for quite a while, in which case I still take full responsibility.

I am hoping to change that soon, right now, trying to get feedback from old users and buds. as well as find out the best way to do the upgrades without loosing my data.

I'll let everyone one know how it goes. ;)

Hey Simon, long time no talk.

I'm glad you'll come back, it's good to hear, I miss everyone

but... What about the question? LOL

Should it stay as is, with certs and tech talk in mind, or should we leave that to sites like Certforums and MCSEworld and make Tech-unity more of an offtopic chat site?

Why not let the user community make it what it will be? If they want to talk about tech, they can talk about tech. If they want to talk about certs, they can talk about certs. If they want to talk about off-topic things, they can talk about off-topic things. In any case, it will STILL basically be a site for IT folks (and wannabe IT folks) to talk about things that interest them.

In short... I don't think you have to choose.

    Glad to be of assistance.

On another note, I haven't been to Monterey in almost 20 years... I bet it's changed a lot, though I remember it like it was only yesterday. If I ever get back out there to visit, I'll give you a shout.
