Mitzs, i very much doubt that you can install XP after Vista and create a dual boot set up or upgrade to XP. The reason for this is that XP is totally unaware of Vista, as it is the older OS. Newer OSs are programmed to recognise and upgrade *older OSs* not the other way round.

Personally i would recommend trying out Vista and see how you go. 2GB of RAM is fine for Vista, thats what i have in my PC and it flys. I also use Dreamweaver and Fireworks without any flickering problems. to me that flickering on your friends computer is not Vista but possibly a video hardware/driver issue.

Ack! :blink A Celeron? Personally, I wouldn't touch it - I've had to deal with Celeron processors before. :sickR

Plus, I'm not sold on how good Acer laptops are. :unsure Does anyone have some positive experiences to share?

Celerons are ok for XP they will do the job. I have used Celerons for years before i could afford a decent C2D. I wouldnt expect much perfomance from Vista though, Vista needs a fast CPU.

Again Acers are ok.. not fantastic but they do what it says on the tin and you get a lot of features for the money.

Personally i would check out Dell (spit) as they do have some excellent deals on laptops at the moment.

I decided to cut corners for my first laptop and get a Celeron (2 GHz) as well, despite my real-world experience with them. I had to disable services just to be able to play music CDs without them skipping! :blink Nope, I'll never make THAT mistake again!

I've had extremely good experiences with Dell laptops. Had a problem with my space bar on my most recent laptop. I put in a service request and had an e-mail response within the hour saying that my replacement keyboard had already been shipped! I received the keyboard at my doorstep 23 hours after my initial request.

Sigh, I was all excited at first, but that is the bussiness laptop. I can't buy one of those because I do not have a bussiness licensen or tax number. Belive me, tried to get one for my sister inlaw last year. No way no go. :( Thanks for looking for me though.:thumbleft

I don't have a business license or a tax number, and I've ordered many times from Dell's Small Biz Web site... :blink

Well we tried to order bertha one last year, and they would not sell her one for nothing because she did not have a tax number or bussiness. She did hers over the phone. So I did not hear that end of it.

Any way, Mary got it order for me lastnight! :D Don't know how long it will take though got the order email, but not the confirmation with the shipping date. Any idea how long it is usually is?

Depends on whether they've got that particular configuration readily available and what location they ship it from. If they've got it available in Nashville, you may have it rather quickly.

Weird, a Celeron 2GHz should easily be able to play music CDs without skipping. Mine was less than 2GHz and i ran XP MCE on it, Played games like Doom 3, COD, COD2, had all my music CDs (hundreds), watched avi films and DVDs with no skipping issues and also TV. The only thing it would skip a bit on was HD digital TV. i still keep it as a perfectly usable secondary PC for the misses :)

I bought a Acer aspire 5630 it's got vista home premium on it and 3gb of ddr2 ram. I have had no problems with it and read all the reviews and feedback from customers on ebuyer.

It's got 5 star rating n the website and 44 people giving 5 stars :biggrin

I believe acer did have a problem 4 years ago. But they seem OK now:blink

That's what I thought too! And this is on a fresh install of Windows XP Pro... not the crap that came pre-installed on it...
