a call from the technical computer department?

I have had 3 in the last couple of months. Their speel goes like this:-

Hi this is Edward from the computer technical department (never heard of an Indian called Edward).

We want to inform you that there alots of online infections waiting to damage your computer as soon as you logon to the internet. These cannot be picked up by anti virus applications.

If you will log onto the internet now and your online banking, if you dont use online banking please give us your debit card details and we will remove these threats from your cable.

I like to string them along for as long as possible pretending not know how to use the pc by saying stuff like where is the on button and how do I use the internet. They will actually peservere with you until you tell them to **** off.:D

Anyone else had a call from these guys?

Yes! well not me, but my aunty did.

I picked up the call afterwards and started chatting to him asking what it infected and why they needed her debit card.

As soon as you get technical with them they just hang up

Guy i spoke to was called trevor

yeah I have had a Trevor phone up too, funny thing is he was also Indian :)

On that occasion I started asking him if he needed my 128 bit encryption to my router and if he wanted I could link to his call center to make the process easier. I then said I would need his debit card details so I can process his authencicty.

He hung by that point :)

I had Gary Lewis from India and he hung up as soon as I started to question him:x
Then the next day I had some other Indian chap phone me about some totally unrelated but equally unlikely cause for concern that he could help me with.:dry
At least that's not as annoying as the charity collectors who come at teatime.
The best response I've heard is to tell them your interested and that all your details can be found at some trolling website like Lemonparty.org:ohmy:twisted:
If you don't know what Lemonparty is my advice is to stay curious and don't blame me if you find out.

Not me but my mother in law had one of these and got as far as starting to download the RDP software they asked her to get so they could "Speed her machine up".

When she told me this I hit the roof and told her how close she was to be getting scammed and losing her money.

I'm pissed off that they even have my phone number and even attempt to scam me.

Yep, it's quite prevalent here too, i have had a few calls myself and so have some of my clients. In fact they were mentioned on the news last night, so hopefully the word will get around.

One of my clients was worried when she got a call like this, until they started asking her to do stuff like download something.

She told them she has a man to do all that (me!), at which point they told her to F**k Off and hung up on her.

I had a Robert call me last night, he told me that my copy of windows was infected and they could sort it, I informed him that this was unlikely as I dont run windows at home, and that he had a choice of Linux or Mac OS.

Eveidently hes not a Mac fan as he hung up.
