Ok so obviously what is easy for some is hard for others, and vice-versa ... but anyone got any thoughts on the hardest exam, Microsoft or otherwise?

I'm going for the 70-291!

(actually scrap that, it was Logic Programming (in Prolog) at Uni, closely followed by Computability Theory (Turing Machines, Decidability and that) Didn't have a Scooby. Still don't.)

Any hard science exam at postgrad level ?

Seriously guys, most certs are multiple choice, high pass marks, trick/bad questions, multiple answer questions add difficulty, but often even people with poor understanding can score 50-60%.

Hardest is a subjective term, and is normally a reflection of the breadth of the syllabus, technical difficulty of the subject and preparation of the student.

I was answering from the certification exams I have done never done a postgrad science exam so wouldn't like to say how hard they are I expect they are hard but without doing them would have no real basis to say they were hard.

Out of all the postgrad science exams you done which one would you say you found the hardest?

All universities deliver their own courses, so for example a Computer Science degree at Manchester is not the same as a Computer Science degree at Birmingham. It generally goes with what the specialism of the department is, what lecturers are available to teach, and in what depth they teach it relating to the nominal year they are taught in.

A Ph.D. viva is going to trump anything in terms of difficulty, I would reckon. (or, I should know!) Even more so a D.Sc. review, which is like a higher version of a Ph.D. (you get it after your Ph.D. and many years of "thinking")

My NFT when I was 17 (Navigation Flight Test), followed by the CCVP QoS as it was then the CCNP ROUTE is a corker.

Other than that all exam's are easy to pass if you have the right amount of study and practice. I have cheated in all my exams by memorising all of the relevant manuals back to front and labbing like a lunatic, never been caught yet :-)

Ive struggled with two exams in my career, the type I needed to have so felt like I had no choice. Good old 70-291 and the VCP4 exam. The VCP exam not so much as I scored 298 on my first try, 2 points off a pass, but because I felt I had studied hard and worked with VMware products, it really knocked my confidence. You know when you think you're especially good at something and that turns out not to be the case. It was my command line knowledge that let me down at that time I think. Needless to say I volleyed its teeth in a few months later after going back to the drawing board. A bit similar for 291 except I still had a lot to learn when I sat that bad boy. Again delivered the peoples elbow to the solar plexus of that mother after an initial failure.

The one-shot NT4 > 2000 MCSE upgrade exam was the toughest MS exam I did, on the VMware side it's VCAP4-DCA.

Ah the famous 70-291, it was indeed a challenge.

I wish I'd have started sooner on my certification track, would have loved to do the NT4 to 2000 upgrade exam to see how it was like. Oh well...
