I tried an error-check on my C drive of my Vista Laptop, but the test didnt finish and a strange rumbling noise was coming from my hard drive, im wondering if my hard drive is on its way out?

    What do you think? :dry

If it was a sort of scraping noise then the read write heads are actually interfering with the disk platter. This is a bad thing so do as eggbert suggests make backups ASAP.

or it could just mean its doing its job, hdd does make sounds when its doing alot of reading/writing data. its all down to what one defines "rumbling"

Yeah, I agree with Cheeks - a fragmented drive can make quite a "rumbling" noise when it has to read from all over the drive. As suggested above, try any diagnostic software available from the dive manufacturer.

Oh, and if you do think it's on its way out (after all, your the one there and hearing the noise) then it goes without saying that a backup might be in order:p
