    ...Microsoft!

Quit my job at the Bank on friday, starting my new job in Microsoft Consulting Services two weeks from now :)

Seems like I'll be moving around Switzerland quite a bit in the coming years, visiting customers left right and center, helping to move along projects, architecting solutions for them, convincing them to adopt new Microsoft products and so on ;)

    Woot, go me!

(the hiring process was quite the killer, over a dozen hours of meetings, had to give a few presentations, 3 visits with HR, etc... but it's all behind me now)

I worked in IT Security, primarily Wintel side, but dabbled in some non-Microsoft products as well... It wasn't just a Bank (easier to say it like this), but it also did Trust, Hedge Funds and so on. A major player. I guess they'll be looking for someone new now :blink (not sure it'd be in Switzerland however).

Microsoft told me that a "Security Expert" recently left their ranks, so maybe I'll be able to get in on some of that as well as AD, Exchange, OCS, Hyper-V, etc... :)

The number of Consultants under Microsofts wing in the French speaking part of Switzerland is about a dozen, so I'll be part of a pretty tightly knit "community". There's about 60 consultants in total in this country, and about 500 actual employees. Not too bad for a country with a population of 6million give or take

Gosh, I'm so looking forward to this... especially all the free software, LOL!

I finished Dead Space a long time ago... speaking of which the Microsoft office in Zurich has a room with XBoxes and games :biggrin

Oh man, got so much last minute shopping to do in these two weeks. New pillows, some more furniture, lamps (led bulbs, more eco friendly), some more dishes etc... Once I start, I expect to be quite busy until the end of the year if my friend is anything to be believed (he used to be my boss in a job I held some years back... when I left, he left as well and became a Consultant at Microsoft as well... hearing the stories from him it seems like I'll have my work cut out for me!).

Oh, and I need to get new suits, ties, shirts, shoes... gotta look good for the clients

Well... difficult to go into detail salary wise, but if I attain certain goals, it can end up being quite a bit higher. Plus there are certain significant perks (like free exams! haha).

But it's the job itself which is the biggest reward =)

Well done m8 ! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Every time I've been to UK HQ in Reading the staff genuinely seem to enjoy working for MS.

Indeed, when I speak to these people, they seem rather content with their jobs at Microsoft :) Some of them do say it's tough at first, but after a few years you pick it up and all becomes second nature (isn't that usually the case anyway?).

jk: maybe if I become a technical lead (say 5 years from now), or if there's a sudden shortage of consultants within other Microsoft regions (UK, France, who knows). But primarily just being a road warrior here in Switzerland.

I all ready had a job where I spent 6 months travelling over the course of 4 years... was very fun I can tell you that, but also quite a different style of work.

Will you be based in Zurich? If so maybe we can catch up sometime. I know where the MS offices are.
