Google is offering certification to IT professionals who can show their skills in flogging, installing and maintaining the search giant's online applications.

First out of the blocks is the Google Apps Certified Deployment Specialist badge for people who can move data to, configure and deploy Google Apps.

    good things:
    cost $100 + webcam $45
    can test at home!

    bad things:
    need to test annually!

i like googles idea of testing at home i.e. removing prometric / vue is a good idea, i hope more vendors take this up

    Hmm, interesting.

So the webcam is for them to monitor you to make sure you're not blagging it?

But i could in theory point the webcam at me - have somebody sat out of camera view with another laptop looking up any answers on the internet! or even VNC onto my laptop and watch the screen then answer lol

Be interesting to see how they "Lock down" your computer, i think test's should stay in test centre's - an actual exam enviornment.

Don't think I would sit the exam unless the boss pays for it but I'll have a look at those study guides and courses. Thanks for the link!

Can't see much need for this to be honest.

Agreed. Prometric and VUE aren't perfect... but I'd much prefer keeping exams proctored to protect what integrity remains of the certification programs.

Sounds pretty cool. We have rolled out the Google Apps Trial for Businesses at the place I am working at the moment. Getting to grips with it, but some of the applications seems pretty useful, and a lot better than the bog standard webmail solution we are currently using!
