    Hi
Well after all the trouble I'm having, with this pile of s... I have ordered BT Broadband,I am not getting the basic broadband I would sooner get the dearer one at least you get FREE 24hr 7days tech support, I know thats only for the broadband and connection, anything else I can learn from all of you.:-)
The 5/09/05 is D Day I'm getting rid of Windows 98 Yaaaaa :-) I was speaking to a guy at BT and because I havnt got the CD for 98 he said get 2000 in stead it is a lot better, so I have a friend who is getting me the CD from a friend at work who runs the IT dept.
At the moment I cant Scan disk's it's taking 3/4 attempts to get it started. And when I am on, like last night in the chat room it disconnected me 23 times, now that is over the top :-(
    So we'll wait and see

well I use to work BT Broadband Missy so any problems you get with them you can throw them at me and I will see what can be done for you and you are right the dearer version of BT Broadband provides free support (altho when I was working there it was a chargeable phone line) and the BT Basic is a premium rate line (and yet its in the same building being answered by the same techs!!)...so let us know how it goes...

Thanks Trip, but one good thing came out of all this, when we did a 'Avast' check it found 20 trojons and we did a full reg check too that was ok, so I am keeping Avast and Zone Alarm for now. this friend of a friend was great he really knew his stuff and explained it to me from begining to the end, so i hope i have learnt something.

The anti-virus program you mentioned is a good one(in my opinion)
and I believe it is freeware too(which is nice). :)

I didn't find the difference between the two operating
systems to be too much of an adjustment
but there is better file security
with the newer OS(with NTFS). 8)

Yes I agree about Avast, it found those nasties in 30sec and as you pointed out it's Freeeee.
I'm still finding my way round, I think the secret is 'dont' be affraid to go in and have a look. To be honest i was to frighten to do anything on my old 98 as it was so unstable :-(.
It was a gift from a friend, so i could do my collage work on and he hadnt bothered it at all, so you can imagine what state it was in :-)
    But i'm happy now :-)

Trust you to notice that Trip :biggrin

Missy I think it is a shame that you gave up on 98. I reckon you were the only one on this board using such an unstable OS (operating system) and I thought it was quite quaint :biggrin

Oh well, welcome to the world where computers don't crash every five minutes. Having to re-boot less often will give you more time to get to grips with XP. You know you can turn off the XP theme and it will look and feel more like Windows 98. The computer will run faster and the learning curve will be easier on you.

Once you are more familiar, you can turn it back on again if you so wish.
