Right... I am pressing ahead with plans to do my MCDST; however, I also want to begin to put a network together at home. This means starting out with Windows Server 2003, and pushing on with Server 2008 at some point.

First (of many) questions is: which are the best books that will help me understand how to set it up and get AD, etc working? Should I be looking at the Self Paced Training Kits or the Resource Kits?

    All help much appreciated.

    Cheers

    John

Between an MS Press study guide and a resource kit you will always find more in depth information in the resource kit and they are a great resource to have. Although most study guides will walk you through setting everything up so that may be your best bet. And if you can buy both. :)

Ah, yes... Mark Minasi. Looks like another good book to get hold of.

    Thanks :D

Yikes! Almost putting the cart before the horse, aren't ya? :blink

Although I haven't read it, the Minasi book is likely good.

    Hi Michael.

You know me by now... I want to start looking at it and begin to understand it and play with it... while studying for the MCDST.

I don't intend to take the exams anytime soon (not in the next 2 weeks anyway... :biggrin), but I do want something that I can read that allows me to learn more about AD, GPOs, and give myself hands on experience.

I don't expect to walk into a job with it, just as I wouldn't expect to walk into a job with the MCITP. 8)

    Cheers

    Lol... thought you might be...

Well, I have asked work if they can supply me with a PC to act as my server. Currently waiting on a reply.

In the meantime, I am continuing to read my Bill Ferguson Sybex book on 271 and 272...
