Right here is my problem I'm thinking about looking for another job and have seen one that really fits the bill. So I thought champion I'll get an application form. Looked through the spec and all looks really good until I get to a list of what they are looking for and listed in essential is Math GCSE C grade or above. Now here is my problem I only have a D in Maths so I rang some clueless bint to be told not to bother as this is a minimum for the job eventhough I explained I have 12 other GCSE's at C or above, A Degree and several professional IT qualifications and lots of experience in IT. Has anyone come across crap like this and is it worth bothering to apply or am I just wasting ink and my time? Anyone work in recruitment have any advice?

I am really cheesed off at this because the only time I've used Maths in IT is counting the number of PC in a room...

erm, apply anyway and ignore the clueless bint?
    :)

my CV doesnt even list my school qualifications anymore (saves space) if they are looking for someone and basing thier decision on GCSEs then the job is clearly too junior for me, GCSEs should not be a requirement for anything but the earliest of entry level jobs, aimed at young 18 - 20 year olds who didnt do a degree

i find it a rediculous requirement, infact i find bachelors degrees a rediculous requirement for the most part :D

go for it mate, and whats this about ink? your not just mass applying on jobserve? hehe

Let me see if I understand this through the cultural/educational differences. They are asking about your grades? Geez. It's been a long time since I had to show anyone my school transcripts.

    basically yes trip
they want to know what our math grade was (we have final exams for each subject at 16 rather than just a 'high school diploma' so its half way between asking for your high school diploma, and asking your grades
they are asking our final exam grade, not our gpa (if that makes sense)

That is terrible to say not to apply. Whilst those job specs state essential and preferred requirements they are not set in stone. If they are then the personnel officer should be shot.

    Go for it

Slypie, if you really like the job apply for it. You never know when your app may still be the best they get since you do have all the other qualfications. Some places do ask for more than what they want or really need. Anyway all your out is some paper and a few minutes to drop it off. You never know if you don't go for it.

I managed to get past the bulldog in personnel and talk to the IT manager who advised me to put my application in anyway. He said it was a required qualification but was impressed with my other certs and qualifications. Thanks guys I would of probably of binned my application if it wasn't for a kick up the backside by u lot...
