well as far as I was aware you couldn't be logged into the same account on MSN from 2 different computers at the same time I appolgise if this is incorrect.

    GBL,

I really don't want to carry this on as I know you are a nice guy, but that's kinda my point. (You can't, by the way, it logs you out of the one you were logged into, to log into the new instance.) We all get things wrong, but giving wrong advice can be very unfortunate for people who know no better.

just a query then, if I have given lots of bad advice then wouldn't other members have said something or would I not have the rep I have.

Yes I amy have got somethings wrong but I don't take a stab in the dark at trying to help people. I say what I think I know and if that knowledge is wrong I would rather someone tell me its wrong rather than let me carry on but to start making sarci comments and being a bit of *** about it isn't on.

There are lots of threads on here that I haven't replied to because I have absolutely no knowledge of what its about, but on the threads I think I can help I will.

    GBL,

See, this I why wished I could have just not said anything.

Why shouldn't you have rep? You have helped alot of people, and rightly deserve it. But then again, you have made a large contribution in posts so less rep would be pretty inproportionate.

I'm not saying you don't give good advice, I was trying not to make this personal, but you give ALOT of good advice, SOME bad advice and then tend to just chime in with any old statements on threads you don't know about.

Taking a 'stab in the dark' and saying it is such can help, but saying something as gospel fact when you do take a stab in the dark, is never usually a recipe success. And if you are not sure about something, is it really worth messing someone else up to see if you are right?

I like the typed-diarohhea that some people speak on this forum - I don't post a huge lot, but I read it nearly every day and enjoy the banter and help that comes along with it.

I've forgotton about other online communities purely because they are too quiet or are too clickey.

On a general note, I don't know everything but I like to have an input - if it helps, I always put in a "disclaimer" of sorts stating that I think what I'm saying is the case. As with everything on the internet, absorb it into your mind but don't assume its automatically right. Learn things for yourself.

There's too much attitude elsewhere in this world, lets allow this place to be one of discussion of ideas/answers/theories irrelevant whether they're correct or not.

    It's only the internet!! :)

awww, gb don't worry about it. You know you have plenty of friends here. You know you help people or try to like the rest of us here do. Thats what matter. We are not always going to be right. I know that I am not. But that the beauty of this place. When you are wrong someone will come along that does know more and set the record straight for everyone. :) Just keep being yourself.

Well sed everyone. I don't take it to heart, cos anyone that gets pathetic aint worth my time (although most are really good here.) I also hardly ever post just take in the info off others, I use this place as a resource mainly although there is a good community.

I have noticed a few sarcastic remarks aimed at GBL over the last weeks, slightly unfair IMO.

Reading through the ‘MSN’ thread he wasn’t exactly miles off, so you can’t be logged on in two places but there isn’t anything in place to *stop* you logging on twice without dropping the first connection. I didn’t know that either.

I think a few people are forgetting that GBL is just starting out in IT (from a career point of view) so why not cut the guy some slack? For the sarcastic people (whoever they are!) try to be more constructive when somebody has made a factually incorrect post, why not correct whoever has posted and perhaps link to a site that has the correct information?

Anyways, let’s all have a beer and chill out. :slidedrin

i dont think its that bad on here really

i have been on other forums where all the users were local and all knew each other, serious banter and arguments happened on there

so serious that at one point i was considering driving round to a lads house and doing him in for some of the stuff he was posting about me....

various other fights broke out due to the forum

best just to ignore i found, i dont post a great deal on here compared to forums ive been on in the past, however this is now the only forum i go on because im aware that no-one knows me personally on here, everyone seems to have the same clear goal in mind, to request and share information

the world appears to be a big rat-race to see who can get the most money, people on here can help you in that race by giving you useful information on advancing your career, therefore i see this forum more important than any "socialising" forum so to speak

This is why I joined in the hope of starting the career I want and for advice and if at all possible give advice.

It is unfortunate you can't give anyone a slap on tinternet thats why some people tend to act different when they are on it.

I am always the same on the internet as I am in real life and if people don't like it then they suck my plums.

I think most people are the same online as they are in real life, unfortunately though for the same reasons you cant slap someone over the internet, you cant get them to suck your plums.... maybe you should invent SPOIP (Suck Plums Over IP) :p

LOL Some people do tend to make themselves out to be something they are not especially if no one knows them and can't see them.

It's like people who advertise on dating sites, some girl might say she's a slim leggy blonde when infact she's a big fat minger with ronald mcdonald hair or some bloke might say he 6ft athletic build when in fact he is a fat dude.

So you know one of my ex girlfriends then?

Anyway GBL, i've not read every post in this thread but enough to get the gist.

First off, i never take anything anyone says on a net forum to heart. Things are said in jest here but as theres no "tone of voice" sometimes its hard to miss its meant as a joke.

Secondly, If i ask for advice on here and get what i consider bad advice, i can just ignore it. No one pays ppl to give advice on a forum, and its left up to you to decide whether its good or bad.

Thirdly, if you answer a question with what you think is the correct answer, but turns out to be wrong, so what? make a note of teh right answer and rember for next time. This shouldnt make it you scared to give advice in case your wrong, some one some where will know the right answer, and theres always some one who either knows more than you, or thinks they do.

And finally, there are forums on this board for off topic suggestions. I treat these as free for all banter posts. In these forums you can post almost anything you like about any subject. So some people can rack up a high post count just by posting what would be "normal" chat if you happened to be talking to a mate down the pub. So long as its in the right forum and not in one resevered for technical issues or specific threads then who cares?

I've been here 2 years and havent quite reached 1000 posts, you been here less time and posted more. I only post when i feel i can be bothered on must responed to a post, you give advice and make "idle banter". And in my view idle banter between friends is good.

Thanks for that, it just lately I have had a lot of crap of people and it pisses me off when all I am doing is trying to be an active member of a great forum and some nobs keep getting at me with sarcastic comments.

BTW I do actual work with a woman who if put in a clown suit would be Misses ronald mcdonald, she has bright orange curly hair, wears a lot of blue eye show and when she has a cold has a big red nose :D
