OK, another thicko question from me.

I've downloaded a load of white papers in Word format.I access the documents from the Task Launcher.I don't want the Word icons on my desktop but when I try to delete them, it actually deletes the whole document, not the shortcut.

How do I just delete the docs from the desktop, and just leave them in the Task Launcher or even leave them in My Docs, anywhere but the desktop. When I've moved them to the My Docs, theirs still icons on the desktop.

    Help :!:

    Flex,

Are the icons on the desktop shortcuts or actual word files? when you look at their properties what is the location given? is it the all users desktop or your users desktop?

The properties say that it's my desktop, not all users. They're not shortcuts coz there'd be an option to just delete the shortcut I presume.

I've probably saved the files to my desktop but I really don't want them all their cluttering up the desktop, so what do I do :?:

What happens when you right click on them select cut, open My Documents, right click and paste?

Phil before I try your suggestion, I thought I would empty the My Docs of all the word folders.Howver, when I delete them, like press Ctrl and then select them and delete, they're making copies, there's like a hundred icons now. What on Earth, give us a sec to sort this.

OK now this is utterly ridiculous. When I press Ctrl and select the folders, before I've finished it starts copying them, I'm just getting more and more copies in My docs, oh EDIT dear :!:

Cutting and pasting seems to be working Phil, thanks.I was sending them before, which still seems to leave the desktop ones in place.

I'm spitting blood at the moment though. Why on Earth are my word docs replicating when I delete them :?:

It's like a nightmare where your running from the monster yet it keeps gaining on you, arrrrrrrrrrh :!:

Can't you just open the document and use "save as" to save to a different location...even rename the documents (keeping the .doc extension of course) to make sure the content is saved elsewhere. Then delete the desktop icons.

As an aside, for future downloads, have a specific folder on your drive that's specifically for white papers so they'll all be in one place, then, if you need a shortcut on your desktop to reach it quickly, just create one of the desired folder. Just a thought.

Sounds like you keep selecting multiple docs and copying then hitting paste lots... evey time you do that it creates yet another copy - it renames the copied docs so it never overwrites them.

Do what trip says - its far simpler to create a structured documents folder and take an extra few seconds to save it / download it to the correct folder.

I ended up just making a box with the mouse, and then deleting, man what a doh!!! brain I am.

Someone on another site reckoned it's some kind of setting in my mouse which is making the docs copy.I'll look into it.

    Thanks :!:
