I understand almost all the concepts for the 2003 A+ Operating Systems exam. But there is one concept that I am really having trouble understanding and that is IRQ steering. I read about it in the Mike Meyers book but I am havinb trouble understanding what it means. Could someone give me a link maybe to another explanation about IRQ steering.

Is it the values there are assigned or what IRQ stands or why IRQ's exist?

interrupt request line, and pronounced I-R-Q

Are devices that send interrupt signals to the CPU. On old OS you needed to setup the IRQ address so it did not clash with other devices on the same lines. Such as LPT2 and Modem is IRQ 5. However, when Plug and play devices came along. this was done automatically for us.:biggrin

More than 26 months, and counting... link

Reach deep down in your soul, man up, and go take the exam.

In a couple months, it'll be too late, because you'll be forced to take the new version of the exam... meaning, another 26 months of study.

Also keep in mind that both exams have to be passed under the same version, so if you pass the A+ OS exam under the 2003 objectives, the A+ Hardware exam has to also be under the 2003 objectives.

    Prof,

I know the exams aren't cheap, and of course, you want to pass. But just go and sit! If you pass, great. If not, you can resit again in a weeks time.

Sounds negative, but it isn't. I go in to exams with this attitude, because it usually overules nerves.

Good luck, now go and get that A+ :thumbleft

try going to cramsession.com and download the free study guide for a+ 2003 objectives, this should give you a different "version" as to what IRQ's are, aswell as refresh your memory on the other objectives for the exams... keep your head up, and Good Luck!

p.s. It took NoelG24 ages to go for his A+, and he passed! You could too!

A co-worker of mine got gunshy of the A+ Hardware exam after failing it twice... using A+ for Dummies. Eeeeeeesh. :blink So she simply stopped studying for it... for two full years. I encouraged her to pick up Meyers book and give it another shot. She did, and she passed easily. She said that the Meyers book made all the difference in the world.

Nobody can memorize *everything*. You don't have to be perfect... just good enough to pass. You can do it.

I learned all the irqs and not one of them came up in the exam so you might be lucky and they might not come up at all. I would take the chance and sit the exam but that is just me.
