I don't have any experience with them but I know a couple of people who have.

One started on 1st line then was promoted to 2nd/3rd line. He doesn't work for them anymore because he said the pay was crap and hardly got any better but what he did say is that it was a great learning experience and they gave him all the training he needed.

As for other guy he left after 6 months because he would have the fact that he wasn't allowed to touch any servers until he had proved himself.

Hope it goes well for you.

    cheers GBL,

your first persons experience kind of echoes what the recruitment company said.

The role covers Cisco gear and Telco circuits, and is actually billed as a Network Engineer.

I see it as the way to get the experience I crave, with the possibility of shadowing a more senior member of staff to gain some server experience down the line.

Pay is crap, but I guess I have to bite the bullet at some point.

TBF pay nowadays isnt as good as it was a few years ago (for 1st/2nd line roles), however to get experience one cannot complain, that being said, the more higher the chain you go, the better the pay will be, but it comes with a lot of responsibilities.

I've worked with Fujitsu for the last five years. Started on 1st line, went to 2nd and I'm now a security analyst. The pay is variable and depending on where you are in the company you're either massively under or moderately over market rates for the position. It is a very good company for progressing internally though, because of the size and varied work in the company there are always positions opening up in different areas. As long as you put the work in you'll be able to progress.

Didn't think there was much in the way of 1st line work out in NI. There are datacentres, there's a technical design practice and pretty much all of the application support was moved over to NI from the mainland last year.

Ive just left the mighty Fuj, after nearly 3 years with the company. I started off with doing 1st line, then a 1st line/2nd line role, and finally another 2nd line role, before leaving. I think anyone who is breaking into IT, would gain a lot by starting life out at Fujitsu as there a variety of contracts which can be experienced easily enough throughout your fuji life.

There is chance of progression as stated by Bhoya, although in my experience it felt progression was more open to those wanting to break into management...........but meh. The wages I found though were shocking across most levels................but at entry level, being paid to do IT is great anyway:)

I would say go to the fuj, and gain some great experience, and being particulary in Ireland, there are some very good areas to progress into.........soooooooo go for it.

thanks for all the response guys.

The role is based in the NOC (Network Operation Centre) here in Belfast. It operates 2 shift patterns, with a chance of regular overtime. They are due to move sites in November, to just by the George Best Airport.

I have submitted my application and now just have to wait.

As I said to the recruiters yesterday (Project People based in Bristol), some of the job offers appearing seem to have unrealistic skills demanded. I have seen roles requesting MCSE/MCSA, and that is 1st line support roles.
But as has been said, if the market is as depressed as some say, there will be people with those skills applying for this kind of work.
The recruiters have actually stated that Fujitsu expect people to progress from this role after 12 months.
