    on that one trip, has anyone used bsd so far?

    haven't heard a lot about it and just going for a quick look but any comments on it?

    Nope. Haven't even come close. BSD users say it's Linux on steroids but of course, they will. :wink:

    I use FreeBSD all the time. I have a server at home for my network, and my main work machine is FreeBSD as well.

    I do development for a billing platform, which is also run on FreeBSD.

    At my previous place of employment NetBSD was the preferred flavour, so I used that for quite some time.

    If anyone is interested in trying out bsd, have a look at pc-bsd:

    http://www.pcbsd.org/

    It's a desktop oriented bsd flavour, built on freebsd i believe, with a decent and fast expanding library of apps. It also has a windows-like package installation system.

    Being an 'old fart' I'm not sure what that might be! :D

    I haven't used Linux in anger for about 5 years, but my experience is that BSD is less 'pretty' and less full of fluff compared to Linux, but is somewhat more solid and secure 'out of the box'.

    It *does* require you to have some clue/experience when setting it up though.
