on that one trip, has anyone used bsd so far?

haven't heard a lot about it and just going for a quick look but any comments on it?

 

Nope. Haven't even come close. BSD users say it's Linux on steroids but of course, they will.

 

im sure freddy and pheonix will have something to say about that,lol!

 

I use FreeBSD all the time. I have a server at home for my network, and my main work machine is FreeBSD as well.

I do development for a billing platform, which is also run on FreeBSD.

At my previous place of employment NetBSD was the preferred flavour, so I used that for quite some time.

If anyone is interested in trying out bsd, have a look at pc-bsd:

It's a desktop oriented bsd flavour, built on freebsd i believe, with a decent and fast expanding library of apps. It also has a windows-like package installation system.

 

is it linux on steroids though harry?

 

Being an 'old fart' I'm not sure what that might be!

I haven't used Linux in anger for about 5 years, but my experience is that BSD is less 'pretty' and less full of fluff compared to Linux, but is somewhat more solid and secure 'out of the box'.

It *does* require you to have some clue/experience when setting it up though.
