A dead person is a dead person and the remains should always be respected. Stealing his teeth is NOT a sign of respect. And if you guys don't like the french why the hell did you guys give them a safe habor during the revolt? And please don't tell me it was so you could high-jack their teeth a century or 2 later.

I can only assume you are being serious as I didn't see a smiley. We are talking about a set of porcelain false teeth here ...

Would you be outraged if they displayed someones glasses as well?

I'm German/Chinese so I don't really understand the English/French thing. However, how different is this to digging up Mummies and displaying them on show?

The French/English thing is mainly steeped in history - the same as England/Scotland and their wars of independance.

It's now more of a 'saying' - bah, the French - than an actual feeling of animosity IMO.

I haven't got anything against the French. As long as they keep up the supply of wine. :)

And as for the display - I'm with Ken - what's the difference between this and displaying mummified remains? They were dentures - it's not as if they've surgically removed his actual jawbone with his original teeth. That would be inhumanely disgusting. Granted, displaying a set of grossly decayed dentures isn't exactly a work of art, but I don't think it's as vehemently awful as is being made out.

    +1

I don't 'personnally' have anything against the french regardless to stereotypes, I think it's ironic that us british are stereotyped to have 'bad teeth' and drink tea :p

I don't see anything immoral apart from a decent days digging :thumbleft

haha that's so true, I think it's hilarious and on the surface stereotyping. Those who take it to heart are narrowminded.

In saying that, one is off for a spot of tea ol' chap *waves*

You obviously don't have to work with them then... never met a single French person at work (and I've had three jobs where I have had to deal with them extensively) who wasn't an arrogant, lazy prick. Honestly, anyone who generalises the Spanish and Italians as being lazy obviously hasn't had to work with or for a French company.

Ok, lets put it this way for you and modey. If this was your mother or father and some dug them up and took their teeth would you still feel the same way?

They were still in the poor guy mouth. Granted it there was nothing but bone left but still, they took them out of his mouth. Atleast with mummies they move the WHOLE BODY, not just the parts they think are interesting. But mummy or not, I don't feel it right to disturb any grave like that. I can't stand people who go looking for indian graves here and digging them up just to find the arrow heads and stuff. I really hope when their time comes and they have to face their maker that he gives them one big hot lightin bolt in the bum!

Again I completely agree with Mitz.

I was brought up to respect the dead. Sure, when people die there is only decaying flesh and bone, (and in this case just bone left) but does that really make grave robbery right, in whatever words you want to call it?

I find it very disrespectful to 'remove' anything from graves, but maybe that's just one of my many character flaws.

Gosh! What does that say about the England/American wars of independence?
This is a good point. Whether a person has been dead a few hundred years or a few thousand...dead is dead. Museums all over the planet have exhibitions of mummified bodies, body parts, and other similar displays. Either it's always right or it's always wrong.
