I have a problem with a friends laptop, when I try to save a document to the floppy drive I get a mesage saying location is write protected, there is probably a simple answer to this but I don't know it,
I know it is not the disk as I have tried two and the tab is not on lock,

just means that the previous user has blocked write access to protect whatever they had on it, try alt click,- general- and look at the bottom for two tick options, one should say read only. hth! :tongue

    I think he means:

    Double-click My Computer
    Right-click 3 1/2 Floppy: (A)
    Click Properties
    Click General tab

Make sure a floppy diskette is already inserted. I assume that's the reason I can't find those options on the drives of the two computers I tried. I don't have a diskette handy.

    Pete,

Have you taken a look in device manager to make sure the floppy has no errors reported?

I have tried the same stuff on a file and the tick boxes are there, the problem I am having is there is nothing on the disks that I am trying to save to. and it still says location is write protected,
