The normal answer to this is no, you can't - at least not through VMware.

You can however use an emulator such as PearPC to do it.

Appropriate youtube tutorial can be found here

    Hope this helps :)

Not at all... I'd simply prefer to spend my money on better things than dropping $2000 on a $1000 computer. :biggrin

If you can find a comparable notebook for $1000, let me know about it! All the laptops I've looked at are the same price as the Apple laptops, if not more (for comparable equipment). There are plenty of less expensive laptops available, but I'm not looking for a low-end laptop. Once you get past the low-end laptops, price is no longer a differentiating factor, for the most part. Dell has some nice laptops, but if you compare Apples to apples (pun intended), the prices are about the same. Ditto for HP. Lenovo and Sony were actually more than a comparable Apple product.

I miss the BSOD also, can't remember the last time I had one on XP or Vista for that matter.

The Kernel Panic, as seen here

Although to be fair, they aren't that common.

    Neither are BSOD :)

Grats on the new purchase Raf, let me know if you want any tips, I'm using mine pretty much primarily until I can get a place sorted and have room for a home office

Get VLC for viewing media, its MUCH better on OS X than windows, even integrates with the apple remote
And if you want to try your hand at getting Windows 2008 on it, check out my blog post ;)

Wish mine supported 4GB of memory :(
Good choice on the crucial memory, exactly what I did! (They are now based just down the road from me too, wonder if I can avoid delivery charges?)

At the moment VMWare Fusion 2 Beta
I get a free upgrade to Fusion 2 because I bought Fusion 1
I also dual boot into Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V, great for virtualisation as you can imagine! :)

Oh, you mean, notebooks that are good enough to be able to play games? Oh, wait... companies don't make games for the Mac OS...

Actually, there is a price difference. And I'm not paying extra for a sexy looking laptop.

When starting out in tech support I was given a Mac (having only been a PC user in the past) and took to it like a duck to water.

For virtualisation I tend to use BootCamp if I need to run anything for a serious length of time (mainly when doing sharepoint bits and need IE7 rather than fiddling using Safari or Firefox), but for the occasional thing I will use Parallels. I also use Parallels when demonstrating client / server stuff (GPO development, etc).

I'll have to hand my MacBook Pro back to the school shortly so saving up for a personal laptop over the next few months ... I have to make do with a Dell in the meantime as I can't get a Mac from within the County pool of kit. I am going to miss it for some thing, but mave my MacMini at home for everything lifestyle wise ... oh, and just for certain people ... I have a lifestyle and the Mac fits into easier than XP or Vista does.

Still ... could be worse ... I might want to stick to Acorns ...

All I want to know is if the mac laptop screen is better then others laptop for viewing pics or is about the same. That is the only reason I would even think about going with a mac. Although I have been eyeing those cinema displays. Must resist the urge....

The Cinema displays use the same panels as the Dell Ultrasharps
I have plenty of those and they work fine :)

Some of the laptops can be bought with glossy screens which have some benefits for viewing certain things, but most photographers don't tend to like them much from what I understand

I'm not even worried about playing games on it. I'm looking for a laptop that will serve as a desktop replacement. If you have seen a significant price difference, I'm seriously interested in seeing it. I've looked at the big players (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sony) and the prices are comparable. If I wanted a low-end laptop, there are plenty of options, but based on my recent experience, price is not a differentiating factor when you don't consider the low-end laptops.

I've never used a laptop with a glossy screen, but they seem to be becoming the standard. I prefer matte screens myself.

If you're not worried about playing games on it... then all you need is a low-end laptop. Getting a high-powered laptop to do basic things such as document creation, Web browsing, and e-mail is like getting a Ferarri to check the mail in your mailbox. :biggrin

Yeah, I can't stand the glossy screens. I dread the day when matte screens are no longer an option. :(
