Although they were trying to prosecute someone, I am glad its been blocked as it would just be another way of the 'powers that be' invading innocent peoples privacy.

I don't understand why they would need to see the buyers information. All they have to do is look at his transactions to see if he sold anything. I mean people are just not sending him money for no reason. I'm sure he had to have a pay pal account set up or something like that coming into his bank account for an amazon account.

To be perfectly honest, no, not really. What would they do with it? I've got nothing to hide. <shrug>

I'm sure it matters to some people... but they already know just about everything about me there is to know.

It is a matter of privacy, it is one of our rights. Why give it up so easily? It starts with the little things then just gets bigger as they get more greedy. Will you just shurg when they go to take our rights to bear arms away from us too? Or insist that we all be chipped because it will just make life eaiser all around for everyone but the citizens? Have you not seen where Dr's and Hospitials would like to chip people for their so called health records? Or to chip your children at an early age in case they are ever kidnapped? I'm not willing to hand over any of my rights with out a fight no matter how trivial they may be.

The right to privacy != right to bear arms. One doesn't bother me much. The other one does. I understand where you're coming from... "slippery slope", and all that. I'm just saying that the whole privacy thing, as far as the gummint is concerned, doesn't bother me... because they already have all that info on me anyway... and the stuff they don't have is largely irrelevant.

I totally agree, not sure how is in the states but if our government can work out a way to tax you more by finding out spending habits then they will.

I also heard about the chipping system a while back, I wouldn't want it to go that far regardless of what 'THEY' say the benefits would be.

If you don't think they already know the spending habits of the people as a whole, then you're fooling yourself. Where do you think they get all that statistical financial data from regarding the housing market, durable goods market, buyer confidence index, etc? ;)

Ofcourse I realise they will have plenty of data on the nation as a whole, but I dont want them to know every single thing like what brand of beer I drink and how much and where I get it from.

About 6 months a go I got my personal credit file, which shows the 3 credit reference agencies and its frightening how far back it goes and what it actually says about my spending and loan agreements etc.

I can just imagine what the world would be like if a bunch of farmers from the east coast had said 'taxes? I dont care about no stinkin' taxes, I either pay them to a tyrant 3000 miles away, or 3000 tyrants 1 mile away' (blatent movie quote stolen for my benefit)

yes indeedy.. privacy not important.. guns important... mmmhmmm

Before you say it, no Taxes are not the same as privacy
but if you want to forgo one right.. might as well give them all up

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety
similar can be said of all rights afforded to us

I never said I wanted to forgo the right... I simply said it doesn't affect me much either way. I'm not a very private person. I realize that I'm very different from most folks in this one respect.

If you think they'll increase your taxes based on how much beer YOU drink, then you're also kidding yourself. :) They'll only increase taxes based on how much EVERYONE drinks. If only you drink, it won't really help them out much. If there's a nation full of drunkards, then to be sure, they'll tax the heck out of it! :p

Yep... and that's not even the government's doing! :blink That's done by private enterprises! Imagine what the gummint knows!

yep If a credit reporting agency can give 40 pages of info on my credit history then government will probably have a thousand times that on my life history.
