LOL... yeah I was like that's something Zeb mentioned before... but I gotta try before I end up calling... At least I learned more in two days then I would learned just reading from the book. I am sure that with the proper given ISP I could set it all up to function properly now... That's something good to know I guess for an small company.

I am guessing your ISP doesn't block smtp ports?

It does... outbound only though, so I use their relays for sending out. Never had a problem receiving mail. TBH, I don't even bother with it now. I might be doing an E2K10 implementation next year though, so will need to get (ahem) 'reacquainted' with Exchange on a slightly more involved basis than I am right now (basic admin in a pretty simple environment)

I see... how did you set that up? I am curious, maybe I can do the same for mine. At least I'll be able to send out email....

So I got the sending emails externally to work... using my ISP's relay and port 587. Of course anything coming in externally doesn't work, but that's expected as they're blocking both internal and external smpt traffic on port 25.

Cool, a step in the right direction. 8) Im surprised the relay worked on port 587 though :blink

For inbound email if you get a global POP3 mailbox you can route email there and then download it from the Exchange server (port 110), you will need a third party POP3 connector to do this.

Thanks mate, I am glad to see it's working as well... now I am curious to try what Sparky said regarding POP3 Mailbox connector.... I really want to get the exchange fully functional without having to switch ISP. I really like mine and would hate to have to switch....

Even though I have not created a POP3 connector personally, it should be done in the same way as an SMTP connector (I think).

Basically, it would allow you to recieve emails using POP3 as this would not be blocked by your ISP.

You need a connector as Exchange isn't really designed to work that way. The POP3 connetor would connect to your ISP using your login details and download the emails on a regular basis.

You can probably search the web and get a free trial or maybe even a completely free POP3 connector.

Hav eyou asked them whether there is a service they provide whereby you can have SMTP enabled? If they find out that you plan on getting a new ISP if you can't get it they may chuck it in for free?

Well their business internet has the SMTP open but it's $30 more a month... and to be honest, I haven't been with them long enough to have that kind of power lol... I wish!

You get a global POP3 connector bundled with Small Business Server but not with full Exhange Server, very annoying!

I havent been able to find one for free. You will also need one global POP mailbox hosted for your domain or a mailbox for each account you create. Your ISP may offer some mailbox hosting.
