Got a random opportunity to do an Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 migration so decided to take it on :biggrin

Installed Exchange 2013 a while back I thought it looked good.

Anyone done any migration work yet? Looks through the MS notes and does not throw up any major surprises as yet...

To 2013, no not yet. Aiming to do this at our place, hopefully, this summer. Have done a 2003 -> 2010 one though :)

I've only done an upgrade in the lab, but it was from Exchange 2010 ->2013. Let us know how it goes, i'd be curious.

Same here. Thinking about it during the schools summer break, along with a million other things

Let us know how you get on.

An upgrade from 2010 to 2013 is simpler (fewer steps) than going from 2007.

Make sure that ALL your 2007 servers have the right patches to support coexistence with 2013. The schema updates and installation of a 2013 server will NOT be able to verify if the 2007 servers have the right patch level (it does however verify this for 2010 servers).

    Good luck

Finished today – basically uninstalling Exchange 2007 and switching off the old server.

No major surprises apart from public folders – will they ever die?

The problem I had is that I couldn’t remove the old Public Folder database on the Exchange 2007 server as the database had been upgraded as part of the migration – therefore not manageable from Exchange 2007 anymore.

Ended up deleting the database through ADSI edit and then creating a new public folder mailbox (as you do) in Exchange 2013 and then importing the contacts folder from the old database. I know the migration of public folders is possible but not as easy as previous Exchange versions in my opinion. Not possible to create a new public folder mailbox with the existing Exchange Public folder database still available in the Exchange organisation.

Managed to move the digital certificate to the new server without any hassle either which was a bonus.

All of the other servers migrated to Server 2012 R2 no problem and now running Hyper-V so all in a productive few days. Just need to get paid now! :biggrin
