    Hi all,

sorry aint been around, but thats another story.

Iv just started to try and get going again with some repairs.
Great, 1st ones got me baffed!
Emachines 420, was wrecked with the usual malware rubbish. Have done a restore with original restore e disks. Onboard LAN not in Dev manager, no PCI cards recognised????
Auto installed Realtek 8139, nothing, really weird, tried a brand new PSU incase a power shortage, no...
The only way i can get network access is by a USB Ethernet adaptor.
Just cant get Network adaptors to show up in Dev manager. BIOS says LAN enabled!!!

    Thanks alot

    Kat

Fixed yer post title there, Kat.

So no PCI cards work at all? For example, if you add in a sound card, you still get nothing?

Are you certain that this emachines box is in it's original state? i.e. no motherboard changes, cards added and the like?

The restore disks will usually *only* work correctly if the machine is in its original configuration.

If the machine is in it's original configuration and all the relevant drivers/chipsets were installed, the only 2 other things that springs to mind is:

    1. The MB is faulty and/or
    2. The BIOS either needs resetting or flashing to the latest version...

If the devices are listed under device manager then it should just be a case of installing the drivers. I would try and download the drivers direct from e-machines website. I remember a few years back when I was trying to get a sound card working using a driver downloaded from Creative and it just wouldn't work. I downloaded it straight from the PC manafacturer instead and it worked first time.
