    hi all im having problems wih my 3210 i got a virus so i decided to buy a new hard drive and tried re-installing xp home on it (genuine disk) but an error message appears just at start up saying error code 4 and also code 14. does any1 know wot that means. also do i need the recovery disks to re-install windows?

    Error code 4 means hardware problem, see here.

    However - a virus doesn't mean that you have to replace the hard drive.

    If you have the recovery disks then I'd use those, *with the original drive in place*. Often recovery disks will not work if the hardware has been changed from that originally supplied.

    HMMM - have you tried getting into safe mode at all?

    If you had a virus on your old drive why did you not run the recovery disks, I believe they would have formatted the hard drive as well?
