Recently I was playing with encryption in Windows XP and everything is cool. They use 1024 bit RSA encryption so the data are safe.

But could someone possibly tell me what would happend if by chance I'd have to reinstall the system and I lost my old one so user accounts. It looks to my that in this case I'd lost my data?

Is there any way to protect myself ?

Not without a domain and a recovery agent old chap. If you need to reinstall you would lose the data anyway, surely?

OK so I've exported the certificate to pfx file and how can I use it to recover the encrypted file?
