Hi guys, i have a query that is making me pull my hair out.

I bought a HDD 250gb to install several virtual pc's to help me learn more about Win 2003 Server, however when I connected it to my PC my BIOS recognised it and my O/S picked it up, however the hard drive is Dynamic and i am damned if i can convert it to basic.
I have tried Hirens boot cd and norton partition magic 8.0 but still it reads "dynamic" and simple volume.

I am running XP SP2 Pro, any help would be greatly welcomed.

Sitting in my study waiting for enlightment.

    Many thanks
    Gavin

Not sure if my memory serves me rightly.... but i think after you convert Basic to dynamic, the only way back is it format.

you should be able to use the disk management tool to do that. you just have to make sure there aren't any volumes left on it. if that is so, then you should be able to right click the disk and select convert to basic.

The reason i need it to be basic is that i am also needing to install Vista beta2 build 5384.
I have inserted VIsta DVD (downloaded from MS not a bootleg copy) and it doesnt let me pick the hdd i need it to go on.

I can go into disc managment but when i right click on the Dynamic drive no options are available to me, they are all greyed out.

I have formatted it using NTFS file system and default allocation size.
I am having a moment of weakness, too much revision is making me forget the basics!!!

Thanks for your help guys in this matter.
    regards Gav
