I know some certs you may need to go to inhouse training rather than self study to get the legit certification, with A+ can you still get certified with self study? Also do you need to tell them how you trained?

There's no requirement to tell them about training for any of the A+, N+ or S+. Turn up, take the exam, walk out with your pass sheet.

They do ask in the post exam questionnaire how you trained but the answers are optional.

You can do any cert by self study.

As said you book the exam then take it then pass it. You can take the exams at any test center you want.

As said you do get a questionnaire at the end of the exam which asks questions like how old are you, did you study at a college (although I dont remember it asking where you study). You dont have to do the questionnaire.

I have had someone at a test centre ask me what material i had used. The same guy asked me several times if i had cheated when i got 1000/1000 in my 70-272 exam. I didnt really take much notice of him.

When I aced the 220-602 a+ exam the woman in the test center talked a bit sarcasticly to me and had a funny smile on her face when she handed me my score sheet. I think she thought I had cheated or maybe she was a bit mental.:D

Actually, you can't do ANY cert by self study. For example, the OCP requires that you take an official Oracle University course (unless it's changed recently). However, the most popular certifications can be done via self study.

Surely the only reason you wouldnt want to admit how you trained would be if you were using BD's?

It certainly doesn't. In fact, I used the fact that I studied independently as a selling point in my recent job interview.
