If people do not question what they hear, they cannot ever truly think their beliefs through. In that way, questions can actually be GOOD for a class, especially if the teacher is well prepared. Perhaps Mr. Rudd was not confident that he could answer your questions well or defend his viewpoint well.

Point taken. I classify those folks as being just as extreme as No, it's not only Muslims, but most Christians today don't have a "Crusades-like" mentality (nor do I think most Muslims have a radical sort of mentality). I never said that only Muslims are doing it... I just said I didn't know of any Christians that do (well, until now).

I didn't. I said "radical" Muslims, not all Muslims. Most are fine.

I wouldn't... not the bad things that he did, anyway. Thing is, I generally like Bush, and I *still* don't like some of the things he did and continues to do. For example, his advocacy of the illegal immigration (amnesty) bill that, fortunately, just got shot down. If he had signed that bill (if it had passed), I'd be mightily upset with him.

That doesn't matter, to the rest of the world the royal family is Britins figure head. Weather they have control or not. Since I'm not a citizen of your country and don't live there everyday, I have no right to bash her no matter how I feel about her or her offspings.

I feel the same about our president. He is our figure head and I don't feel non-americans who don't live here legally and don't pay our taxes have a right to be pointing fingers either.

Yes, sometimes some of his actions do make me laugh, but because he ticlkes me. He is not the propler gentlemen the world expects. He is an old country boy and it does show because he is not ashamed of where he came from. Yet to me, this is nothing because I'm from the country and am use to their ways. What seems funny to you is life for me.

You want me to be honest? I'm not really sure. However, going with first insticts. I have to say yes I would to outsiders. It like a family member you know has done something really bad, you would or I would anyway, prob protect them from strangers wanting revenge, yet I would let the law do what they needed to do. I would trust in the american people to rise up and cause such a stink that congress would have to step in and do something.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he walks on water or do I agree with everything he does but by no means do I think he is a joke.

We also had a new peace treaty with germany for what 10, no I think it was 20 years because of WW1. I can understand them not wanting to break that so easy.

But I wasn't talking about then I was talking about now. You guys are our allies. If some country decide to attack Canadia who do you think would defend her till your navy and the rest of your forces could get here? And would you expect any less of us? You guys can laugh and point fingers all you want. But if bush is anything he is loyall.

Can we wind this discussion up please?

As interesting as this thread is, and informative too, it is starting to take way too much time away from the focus of the forum (IT) and the staff here are limited in numbers and are having to neglect other threads just to make sure this one isn't getting out of hand, as threads such as this tend to do sometimes.

As you know it is not our policy to close threads.. well only as a last resort but although the posters here have generally refrained form trolling and flaming (thanks for that) i believe the subject matter has been done to death.

So.. please can we just let it go now?

    Thanks,

    Pete

I must disagree with you on a couple of things

1.You have EVERY right to forward your opinion (isn't this what "freedom of speech means"?). you mat say what you feel about the royals. I may not agree with you, but you still have the right.

    2. Our countries seem to be "interlocked" (hands across the water and all that..), so what happens in your country ends up effecting me. This means that I DO have the right to comment. That said, as i mentioned above I would STILL have the right to voice my opinion (as long as it doesn't incite hatred, I cant abide that kind of propaganda).

    3. A persons "ways" are unimportant when they have no effect on other people. I don't expect him to be the "proper gentleman", in fact I cant say that I even know any "proper gentlemen" (It amuses me to see that the American media SOMETIMES portrays the British as all wearing bowler hats and carrying umbrellas, while uttering such things as "very sorry old boy", and "Excuse me my good man, per chance do have have the present time". What does worry me is that His verbal mistakes COULD have an effect on his relationship with others, including Nations.

    4. While I agree that I would try to protect a member of my family also, If a member of my family had the power to effect the whole human race, then I would have to think twice about this protection. Anyway, a family bond is surely massively different to the bond between a person and the leader of their country. Surely your FIRST ALLEGIANCE should be with your COUNTRY and not the man/woman entrusted to run it??
If you could see that a leader was making catastrophic mistakes, (I'm not saying GW IS), then you would HAVE to do the right thing for your COUNTRY,..wouldnt you???
To ignore such mistakes, and still support the leader, means that you are supporting him/her for the wrong reason (after all, he only has ONE JOB, and that is the welfare of the people).:biggrin

No, that's not what "freedom of speech" means, if you're referring to the "freedom of speech" clause in the First Amendment of the US Constitution. "Freedom of speech" is the right to speak freely and not be censored or punished by the government for doing so. Doesn't mean that a private individual or company can't censor you. There is no "freedom of speech" on a forum unless the forum owners specifically grant it... and they can revoke that freedom just as easily. After all, the admins here will allow just about anything... as long as you're not condoning illegal activity, spamvertising, trolling, or attacking someone personally.

Do you really know so little about the US? Our nation IS a nation of immigrants... LEGAL immigrants. The folks that we are wanting OUT of the country arrived illegally... outside of the normal immigration channels, sneaking across the border, gaining employment illegally, not following regulations, not paying taxes, and consuming services that are for legal United States residents.
