    Or American?

Posh? lol. You need to visit Birmingham. Or Liverpool. Or Manchester. The 'Queen's English' is posh. Regional accents and dialects however are great.

Mitzs, I think you have a rather limited view of people in the UK. Depending on where you are and who you're talking to, you could encounter some pretty rough characters. I can't wait until Arroryn comes back with those links. :biggrin

okay, it's a terrible example, but

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/littlebritain/clips/series1.shtml

you may have heard of this comedy series. It basically takes the mick out of British people and their quirks, etc. There are a few regional dialects and send-ups here. Check 'em out. A good example is a lot of the girls around my age speak like Vicky Pollard - the one in the rather pink top.

EDIT: and 'Anne' - the one in the garden, is my fave character, and the reason I hope to never have children. Once I hit 60, I'm switching my personality to that one, and driving all of my loved ones insane.

    Question:
How do I fake a British accent?

    Boyce - please, m8 - have a word with the irish-derived emigrant.

Please, bring up issues such as cynicism, deep sarcasm, and regional variations that mean we all hate the TOWN next to us, never mind country or continent. Also, it may pay to bring up paranoia and nepotism as well.

Oh, and also mention that all of the above are achieved sans-duct tape.

    Thanks Boyce :biggrin

ROTFLMAO! This is hysterical. The article is about how to fake "lots" of regional accents (although I didn't find the way they told you how to fake a (American) Southern accent very accurate). Here are some notables tho. Accent: English
You don't really talk like this...do you? :blink

I have a girlfriend that was born and raised in dublin. The first time I talked to her on the phone, I was so shocked because she didn't sound Irish at all. Not one little accent, nothing! I told her I was so mad at her I just might not talk to her ever again. She started laughing and told me to feck off. I love that girl to death. :biggrin

You got to be joking ! The guy is a winker ! He does'nt care about the environment, the rest of the world, only himself and other rich Americans...When Clinton was in ( not just Monica) America had $600 billion and, I believe almost signed up to the Kyoto agreement...That runt W Bush came in f***ed up the world big style (scrapped kyoto)..America had in January a $200 billion deficit (will be a sh*t load now), dragged our tw*t of a prime minister (another prick) into an illegal war which as yesterday shows has made life for city folk less safe ! (country boy myself, on a Hebridean island far from Westminster where they had the main cold war target if there was a nuclear war with Russia during the cold war..nice eh?)

I was amazed to see Bush/Blair got voted in again...Dont let these wank*rs in again. Well I guess atleast we won't have W again..It will take a hell of a long time to get over that c*nt !!!!

I did'nt read the other posts yet, but it just got me riled so sorry if you were joking...oh aye on the wine again, its been a few months since I was here last...I apologise for the swearing, but when it comes to these two.......F**K EM !

righto...been edited a couple of times. I don't want to rave too much, calmed down a wee bit so will say Oichde mhath (good night to non Gaelic speakers) to the world over......cheerie bye sweetie pies.................

Wow, Angus! Don't hold back. Tell us how you *really* feel.

    jk

Actually, try to take it easy. If you have noticed the general tone of this thread, its been pretty light hearted up until now. Mitzs (I think) isn't intending to re-enact the Revolutionary War so we don't really need to let our differences separate us as mates and forum members.

You are going to encounter a pretty broad spectrum of political leanings here and anywhere, Angus. CF is one of the few forums where people seems to really make a concerted effort to get along and to let who we are as individuals bind us rather than divide us.

You have the right to your opinion and even if I were to agree with a significant portion of it (minus the swear words), I still would try to act with a bit of civility and make an effort to respect a person, even if I disagreed with their politics.

Hope that was "nuff said", here. :)

Oh yes I thought Clinton was just the best thing to happen since melted cheese when he shipped mine and thousands of others job out of the country. And hey lets not forget all the illegal actives he had his fingers in but would not be brought up on charges because he was the president. Best of all I always vote for the one that nothing but a compulsive liar. Yeah, what I really want is another Clinton in office to keep my faith strong in my government. NOT! I'll stick with bush. He an old fashion country boy that puts in on the line. And please do not call MY president names. You don't have to like him and can even hate him. But until you pay taxes here and live here 24/7 you don't have a right to call him nothing but bush. Thank you for killing this thread.
