Got woken up just before 1am this morning by some goddamn awful rumbling.

We live about a mile or so from a local RAF base, so I assumed they had one of their AWACs flying low; however, my wife swore blind it was an earthquake, so I had a quick look round to make sure my little fella was OK and went back to bed.

I woke up this morning to find we'd had a 5.3! :blink

Yeah it woke me up too, it was quite surreal as I was having a bit of a crazy dream at the time!

I was driving home, I never felt a thing.

Since when did the UK have earth quakes? and is this gonna be another excuse for Labour to tax us and blame it on global warming?

Erm, the Earth moves for me every night! 8)

Yeah - It was weird - must have incorporated it into my dream as dreamt that I was in a team of people investigating earthquakes :blink

Do you remember Buncefield? Was it the same type of feeling as that, or did it last longer?

In the original post I found a link to an article with in it a list of quakes in the UK in the past.
We had one in the south of our country a few years ago, but they are rare in these regions (that's western Europ).

I managed to sleep through it!

I remember a quake many years ago in Birmingham while I was working there.

I haven't felt an earthquake since the 6.9 near San Francisco in 1989.

That's something I'd just as soon NOT have experienced! :ohmy

I was stationed at the language school in Monterey, CA at the time. It happened when I was on the 2nd floor of our barracks building, and we were about to go get some dinner. The floor started moving back and forth, and I found a door frame to try to protect myself.

Over the next few days, aftershocks rolled through. One happened late at night while I was sleeping. I woke up to hear my bookcase falling off of my desk. I went right back to sleep. So I can say that I've literally slept through an earthquake! :D

How did this go from earthquakes to farting so quickly? Yeah, the last earthquake I remember feeling was the same as BosonMichael, that big one in California.
