So have you guys been keeping up with the latest? D3 is approaching a beta period, so make sure to log into your battle.net account, and set your beta preferences (you need to run an exe to gather your system stats).

I'm not so keen on two of the most recent announcements though:
    1. There will be a Real Money Auction House in addition to an in-game AH.
    2. Due to the "Heavy" online integration, a persistent internet connection will be required
I can deal, to some extent, with an RM AH, although I think that its a bad choice. That said, apparently it was a big thing in D2 with people selling items on ebay. So if it exists, why not regulate it I suppose.

The persistent connection is a big issue for me. Apparently this is due to a number of online features, such as cloud saves, and multiplayer. But it does mean that you will never be able to play on a flight, or on a train with rubbish wi-fi.

Also, I've refused to buy the PC copies of Ubisofts games for a while now, due to their persistent online connection DRM. This smacks of the same. I can try to justify it to myself that it's not DRM as such, and that it actually delivers some benefit for the requirement (the cloud saves are a pretty nice feature, although not something I would lose sleep over not having). So now I have to decide how far those principles extend. I really like the Diablo series, and this is just a kick in the nuts really.

After playing MMO's for years I guess I'm used to requiring an internet connection (and an up server) to play that it'll float right by me.

I mean, come on.... it's DIII ! Finally.

I loved Diablo II, will for sure be getting Diablo III.

My concern is security, as with previous versions of diablo was alot of "botting" and "duping" that really spoiled it for most.

Providing they can combat hacks/exploits im sure it will be a great new system(real money AH) and many MMO's will follow.

See this: Blizzard Responds to Diablo 3 "Online" Complaints for Blizzards response in regards to the online cloud storage of characters and also in reference to stopping the botting and duping via this method.

Some snippets for you good folk:

    Diablo III - Collectors Edition

Although I like the idea of the D3 in game items, and the artbook/soundtrack are much of a muchness. I'm not sold on the USB stick. It's nice that it includes D2 and D2:LOD, but to be honest, I already have those (two copies of both, infact). So I may not be getting this (also, the skull just looks ugly. Not sure I want that sitting anywhere in my flat).

Interesting, but since I no longer play WoW, not overly tempting I dont think.

Very interesting. I suspect the trend of WoW subscriber drop-off is set to continue and this is a cunning way of trying to mitigate it.

With Titan still many years off they must be wondering what it is they need to do to restore WoW to its former glory.

As long as that isn't mega expensive I'm getting that box set. It looks awesome. Even if I never played D2 again (which I have + expansion) it would still be wicked to have that USB stick with them on I reckon.

Where do I sign up? :)

Us Worgens will slaughter the pandas, tearing them mercilessly limb from limb and bathing in their far too cute blood, the dragons shall roar, the knives shall stab, and we rogues will continue the slaughter from the shadows.

Now... what shall I call my demon hunter, muahahahaha.

Tempting game as I use to own the D1 and D2 but didn't get the chance to play the game. Well back to the drawing board as I might go and hunt the first games down and start all over LOL:)

Gotta admit, this did make me laugh, (especially the last line) but ....

Quite apart from 'playing on the move' which I have never done with an online game or ever felt the need to do. The persistant DRM on C&C4 meant my game would drop out all the time and I just gave up in the end. My broadband wasn't particularly great speed wise, but was ok for latency. Could play normal online games no probs, but couldn't play C&C4 single player ... what a total joke! The only saving grace was that I was given the game for free. If I had bought it ...

Blizzard heavily invested in console version of Diablo III

People have been waiting for Blizzard to make a console version of their popular Diablo franchise almost as long as they’ve been waiting for Diablo III to come out. The highly addictive and highly anticipated sequel still doesn’t have a firm release date for the PC version, Blizzard wants you to know they’re working hard on getting Diablo III onto consoles. VG247 broke down a Game Informer interview with Diablo III’s director Jay Wilson, where he spoke about bringing the fan-favorite RPG into the living room. “People don’t believe us when we say we’re going to make a console game – flat out. I understand why they don’t believe us, because we’ve tried this before,” Wilson said. “We’ve also never invested in it to the degree that we are doing now, and we’ve never had a product we felt was appropriate for it.”
