After a rather abortive attempt some weeks ago, I finally managed to get a Debian VM up and running in VMware. My previous efforts are chronicled Here.

I "cheated" though. Rather than using the Debian ISO image I downloaded and ripped, I used a Debian install CD I got with this book. I also used the experiences and feedback I gained at the Linux-Tutorial and VMware forums (a certain ffreeloaded was instrumental is straightening me out).

After I did the initial bare bones install from CD, I got everything else I needed from my local apt repository. After making all of the configuration settings, the thing loaded X-windows and Gnome like a dream. I set about to install Firefox and GAIM and away I went.

Hopefully, now that I have Debian boxes both at work and home, I'll be able to focus a little bit better. I also just finished a major project that was consuming all my free time (I'll talk about it when the publisher says I can) so I should have a little more free time to play.

Of course the American Thanksgiving holiday is this Thursday so I'm sure I'll be expected to BBQ a turkey and entertain guests (still planning that trip to the US, Phoenix?).

I'll let you know how I get on.

Interesting posts Trip, it just goes to show that perseverance pays off. You just need enough time on your hands and you can achieve anything. It is time that is so hard to control :biggrin

As I have said before, if it works first time you learn zilch. You start learning when things start going pear shaped 8)
