Datacentre Environment Training?

    Hi All,

    I don't suppose anyone knows whether there is anything out there that can gain you exposure to modern techniques and solutions for server/rack/server room/datacentre environmental needs...I'm talking everything from power redundancy and intelligent power management to cooling by means of conditioning units to a google style retractable roof to space saving and everything in between?

    It strikes me along with virtualisation and cloud storage as being one of the real hot topics at the moment...being able to give advise on the solutions available to make your excess server room heat warm your office space in the winter months and so on seems somewhat important!!

    Any ideas?!

    There's the: ISEB Intermediate Certificate in EU Code of Conduct on Data Centres, that springs to mind, apart from that, there's vendor own certifications like the: Red Hat Certified Datacenter Specialist.

    IMO, what you're asking for is not going to be covered by one course due to changes in legislation, improvements in technology, differences in technology, etc...

    Hi there, IMHO Ken is correct. You can't be trained in this kind of thing. Logically, you shouldn't know the difference between a datacenter and a local server, mainframe, router, firewall etc. Physically you are looking at the same thing as your local server room only on a much larger scale. Aircon needs to be industrial, UPS goes from the small APC units at the bottom of the rack to massive stores of batteries and a generator.

    What do you want to know? We've got 2 :D
