    My PC has started to run really slowly and I have ran AVG, Spyware etc... which isn't coming up with anything out of the ordinery other than the usual low rosk threats. No trojans etc... I have noticed in task manager that the CPU is nearly always heading towards 100% and as well as the green line it also has a red line constantly their as well. Can anyone suggest anything?

    It task manager if you go to processes and then sort by CPU usage. Should give you a rough idea to whats happening.

    Just a guess but it might be that windows update has locked up or the AV has thrown a flakey. 8)

    There's 30Gb left and I have a 150GB exteral hard rive which has 1.7GB spare. When the problem started it was pictures that were slow to appear when I opened web pages. Now everything is slow, even if I click omn My computer it takes up to 10 seconds to open up. It's almost as if it freezes while it thinks about it. It looks to me as if everything I do puts loads of pressure on the CPU. I was wondering if the CPU could be the problem?

    What's the CPU usage? You've given us the mem usage.

    Expandable to 3GB - has it actually got 3GB of RAM or are you still running with 512Mb...

    <snip>
    </snip>

    Give me a (good, valid) reason why not
