    Chaps,

I want to give a big shout out to TheProf and Craigie for achieving their VMware vExpert this year. For those of you who don't know, VMware award the vExpert award to individuals who have demonstrated significant contributions to the community and a willingness to share their expertise with others.

With their blogs they have managed to achieve something that is actually quite difficult to do, this year there was in excess of 1000 submissions for the vExpert award but only 580 were actually awarded.

Well done guys and keep up the good work :)

    Simon (vExpert 2012\2013 as well)

Thanks Simon, great to see three of us made it.

However, it was a close call for Dales, shame he missed it :(

Yes Well done chaps really happy for you. I wasn't expecting it to be honest as most of my work has been Citrix based for over a year so not too much blogging going on around VMware but it was worth a punt.

    But again great job guys!

vExperts - could I ask for some advice please? I'm finally starting to think seriously about sharing my experiences in work, advancing my career etc which has got me wondering, when do you submit a request to be considered a vExpert guys? I wouldn't blog just for that but I want to test myself and a reason to keep up the work rate, such as the vExpert, could be good for me. Any advice would be much appreciated, cheers, James

The vExpert award is given to individuals who contribute to the VMware virtualization community. It can be through blogs, forums, or through teaching, etc... Usually the nominations start sometime around March I believe and they measure your contributions for the past year, so if you're going to be applying for vExpert next March of 2014, you'd be measured on your contributions for the year 2013 up until December 31st I believe.

I would suggest that if you're looking to apply for the vExpert next year, you should start preparing for it now with things like blog posts, forum contributions, etc.

It's also nice to get to know some people that are like you and me in the same industry through twitter. Definitely worth having the connections.

    Hope this helps :)

^^^^ What that man said, although to be fair if you're looking for vExpert 2014 then you should have been blogging since the start of the year (as it's supposed to be for the previous years content).

Definitely get to know the people in the know, there are loads of great blogs and twitter conversations out there and partaking in them gets you noticed.

You need to have decent blogging content, be a face at things like VMUG's and vForum etc, don't be scared of talking to people on Twitter (and taking the piss out of them if required) and make friends.

Thanks very much gentlemen. I will get on board with "the twitter" as oldies call it. I've got an account but thats about it. Based on your sound advice I think I will start to increase my online presence on twitter and the many well known blogs etc with a view to typing up some of the weirder fixes and issues I've resolved. I think I'll start to document some of the things I've worked on like vCloud, handy tips or what have you. 1st of Jan I will get a domain name and get cracking. I would imagine having vExpert on your CV stands you in very good stead with present and future employers...?

I need to get two HP Mico's too. I'm still only running the one HP ML115 :( It's enough for my 2012 studies for now at least. Oh one quick question while I have you please? I can access most of the downloads on the VMware site to get my trials. Does anyone know, can you get SRM as a trial? I can't seem to find it. I've never used it to be honest. A customer somewhere in my company must have it so I'll ask around, see if I can get a look at it but it would be good to trial it at home
