Greetings, postie227. Welcome to CertForums. To try and answer your question (which has been asked before, believe it or not), you might try some of the resources in our forums.

Start by reading through our A+ forums to see what other people have had to say:
    http://www.certforums.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=29

In that forum, you'll find a Books and Resources link pinned at the top. That should help a great deal:
    http://www.certforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=3707

There's another thread pinned there discussing the upcoming upgrade to the A+:
    http://www.certforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=10984

Finally, I recently posted a news article about the A+ exam:
    http://www.certforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=13041

That should be enough to get you started. By then, others will have had a chance to respond to your query with their own advice. Cheers. :)

The best way to start is to simply buy a book and start reading it.

The recommended book around here is the Mike Meyers All in One.

Whilst you are reading the book it helps to apply the skills that you are learning so pop onto ebay or look in you local paper for a couple of old PC's that you can take to bits and put back together.

After doing both of these things you are well on your way.
