    Hey there

I'm about to do the first A+ exam on Monday.
I've just been doing the sample questions from
    Code:
    http://www.comptia.org/certifications/testprep/practicetests.aspx
I seem unable to get more than 83% and am quite worried that there seem to be questions not covered by my study material, such as the one about C-RIMMS and CT-RIMMS. Also there's a question about recovering readable info. using CHKDSK and which switches should be used (asks you to select 2) as far as I know there's only one switch for that -r.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has done these questions and has any idea how they compare to the actual exam..

    Cheers

    Carl

When I did the ones on the compTIA website there were only 20 questions so this wont help you see how you are doing. They are only sample questions and they cant reflect what you will get on the real exams. Why dont you get some proper practice exams that will really show how you are getting on?

Kinda of remember running through them a month or two ago, they seemed to cover the objective topics although there were a couple of questions that seemed like they were from the previous exam.

In the two examples you give C-RIMMS/CT-RIMMS are current, the objectives list knowing about RIMMS which means the associated parts too (for reference if you hadn't already looked it up they're continuity RIMMS (terminators/dummies), used to fill the slots on the board not populated with actual RIMMS, a requirement of that specific type of memeory)

As for chkdsk, /R is the bad sector recovery and implies /F when used, which is error recovery, you can use /F on it's own, so the answers should have been /F + /R.

In the real exam I didn't find any quesions off topic as such, but be prepared for bad english, oh and make sure you know the official troubleshooting method backwards.

    Hi John

Well there wasn't very much at all on the exam that I hadn't studied although there were a couple of things that I don't recall seeing in my study materials. I used the Sybex A+ book, i would say that there is a hell of a lot in there that you probably don't need to know...like the OSI model for example, I don't think that's even on the syllabus.

I could have got away with knowing quite a lot less I think, but maybe that's just because of the questions that came up for me and there were a few where I had to make a best guess.

    Good luck

    Carl

Careful... you signed a non-disclosure agreement before you took the exam, which states that you won't reveal what you saw. Failure to abide by those terms puts you at risk for being decertified by CompTIA for life. Just want to keep you and your certifications safe, bro. Again, congrats on passing!
