    Morning,

I'm trying to get my head around the Cisco command line interface to configure a router we've just bought.

I've found some useful stuff on the cisco website, but I was wondering if any of you guys know of a good introduction tutorial or documents that could help?

    Cheers,

    The router is a Cisco 857w, running C850 software, version 12.4 (6) T6.

I'm starting to get to grips with it a little now.

I tried to configure an IP on one of the FastEthernet interfaces but the IOS tells me that IP addresses can't be configured on L2 links. I'm guessing I need to assign the IP to the VLAN interface then, yes/no?

    Hi,

It is hard to advise since it all depends on what you want to configure. The ? will tell you which commands are permitted and Cisco has all the configuration guides on their site. You can view some sample labs and videos here:

    Cheers Paul,

I've been doing some more digging on the Cisco website and found some detailed configuration examples for the series 800 routers which should get me going. I just really want to get the ADSL setup and the private network for the time being.

No doubt i'll be back and posting some questions soon!
