I giving my dell laptop soon and I going to do a clean install of XP on it. but I dont know if anyone has heard of using any utilities to wipe the hardrive first? or if theres any real point of doing that since you are technically formatting the hardrive and going over old data?
I think I am going to have note all the drivers for the laptop later on.

Can't see the point in doing wipes unless you need to do it for security reasons. I normally just delete partition, make new partition. I always make a second partition as well for customer PC's and redirect all of their Documents and user folder to that partition. This means when they come back saying they've got 3000 viruses I can just wipe the system part, and leave all of their docs there.
