    Hey all

Today is the first (real) day of my CBK review seminar, ready for my exam on the 20th June.

I'm with firebrand training, and the facility over at Wyboston (Roughly Cambridge) is much better than the facilities at Heythrop Park.

First of all, the hotel rooms are less like a prison camp, and more like a hotel room. The breakfast also has bacon - winner.

So I'm embarking on the CISSP to gain more of an overall view of security, and to tie up the knowledge i've gained from working in the last 6 years.

I'll be adding to this thread daily, with an update and any questions I may have.

This does seem rather daunting, however the ISC2 instructor is really switched on and really approachable. Wish me luck!

    So, day one is over.

    Pre-assessment went well (125q in 2hours)

Came out with a fairly high 68%

I am impressed as I've not looked at cryptography and application development all that much.

Other than that, it started to drag at the end of the day. I think that was a combination of not having enough sugar / not sleeping enough!

    Day 2: Cryptography

Cryptography was an almost totally foreign concept for me - i've tried to self study it, and I've known enough to get through my MCSE and MCSA.

The level of depth seems scary at first, but then once you actually get to the nitty-gritty, I realised I dont actually have to be a math-genius to get the concept. DES and AES were fine, but ask me that tomorrow, and I might struggle.

I'm hoping some of that will stick in my mind and I expect that in a couple of days I'll feel much more confident.

Also we covered physical security - a bit of a doddle for me. Not phased at all... just remember that you NEED to read this, just to make sure.

    Hello CertForum!

Today is feeling like a much better day - we looked at security architecture and design, and then access control.

Lots of conceptual stuff that i've had to stuff into my noggin.

I've been looking at some CISM questions as an alternative to the CISSP practice questions in the book, just to really test that I understand the CONCEPT and am not just memorising parts of the course - lets face it, book answers wont really cut it in the REAL WORLD

A couple of people on my course have mentioned test-fail-kings as a good way to study... what idiots - it really grinds my gears.

I've casually ignored that, as I have little inclination to get involved and have tried to stay clear.

Fingers crossed some of this will actually stay in my head, and I'll get on OK

Telecomms I'm ok with, so I'm not too fussed about that part of the CBK - i'm still going to review it, but I'll dedicate less time!

    peace out
    karl

So day 4 came and went -

we covered business continuity, application security and development and legal/compliance.

Was a riviting day, surrounded in mystery and fear.

I tried a practice test last night, got 81% - they are the ones provided by isc2 when candidates take the CBK review.

That was quite pleasing. Today is the final day, where we are going through telecoms (*yawn*) and also operational security.

Then tomorrow is a day of review, revision and relaxation!

Wish me luck, the exam is on sunday!

oH DEAR GOD THAT WAS HARD

the exam was unlike any practice tests I had undertaken, and our CBK review did miss a lot of the content.

I tried my hardest. Will wait for the results.
