Ah, there's the kicker. Not to be a sour puss but as things go in the offline world, right now is probably not a good time for me to join.

But you limit what can be seen for each profile (for example, some people I know put NO employment history on their profile at all)

In addition, LinkedIn members cannot see your contacts unless you are connected.

Yep, but my LinkedIn profile is fully open, my public profile shows nothing, which is what I'd prefer to be shown when joining a group presently. Shame LinkedIn doesn't allow for that.

 

NO - your LinkedIn profile doesn't have to be fully open - as I said, just don't fill everything in and control what is viewed through the account settings

 

Ah, just re-read this. So you want 3 profiles :

1)public

2)anyone on LinkedIn

3)your private contacts on LinkedIn

No, it won't do that but you can get round it by hardly putting any info on there which should fulfill your criteria

 

I filled everything in.

I'll give it a whirl in future for sure, just now is probably not the best time. Just in case...
