How would I find out if I have a default on a student loan that I took out about six years ago? I took out a student loan about six years ago. I fell behind on payments and eventually money was taken from my tax return. I'm planning to begin school again and I will need a loan. I need info about my previons loan accounts. There was a fire at my home and I lost all of my important documents. I don't remember the name of the institution that approved me for said student loan. I've tried on numerous occations to contact to college that I was attending and I've gotten nowhere with them.

you could register with experian or checkmyfile.com and pay them a fee and get your credit report including who you owe money to etc.

 

As GBL said, contact a credit reference agency such as Experian.

If it was a "proper" student loan then contact the Student Loans Company : http://www.slc.co.uk/
