Trying to sort out a cd rom drive (TEAC CD-224E) on a dell 270. The drive can be seen in device manager but the drivers have not been installed even though they are on the hard drive. yellow ! mark showing. Uninstalling and reinstalling the device does not fix it.

    Any ideas?

Have you gone through the update driver process or Add/remove hardware?

Sometimes old driver files are littered around the system and you need to remove them. Are you sure its the correct driver for the device ? The yellow sign just means theres an issue, it could be DMA/IRQ conflict on older machines, what is the actual message ?

Er - a CDROM doesn't *need* any drivers other than the base set built into Windows!

Some questions to help narrow down what the problem might be:

    1) If you can get to the bios - does the drive appear in the listing?
    2) Which version of windows?

A quick test to see if the hardware is OK - boot with a Win98SE boot floppy and load the CDROM drivers. Can you then read a data disk placed in the drive?
